Indy Star, 2/19

As part of her first return to Indiana since being crowned Miss America, Katie Stam will make several appearances in Central Indiana including two stops in Zionsville and another in Carmel.
Stam, 22, a native of Seymour, Ind., and a University of Indianapolis student, won the title in January during the competition in Las Vegas.

Her road to the crown started last June when the Miss Indiana pageant was held at the Zionsville Performing Arts Center. She will return there for “An Evening with Miss America” at 7:30 p.m. March 6. She will perform along with other 2008 state titleholders including ladies from California, Arkansas, Kentucky and Tennessee. Tickets are $20 cash only the night of the show, or advance tickets can be purchased at www.missindianapageant.com.

At 1 p.m. March 7, Stam will return to Zionsville for an autograph signing at The Sanctuary, 75 N. Main St. While there she will also be joined by her fellow state titleholders, plus Miss Indiana’s Outstanding Teen. This event is free.

She will wrap up her visit to Central Indiana at the Miss America Homecoming Gala beginning at 6 p.m. March 7 at the Renaissance Hotel, 11925 N. Meridian St., Carmel. The celebration will include cocktails and dinner. Tickets are $100 per person and can be reserved by March 1 at www.missindianapageant.com.

All proceeds from the weekend events will go toward the Miss Indiana scholarship fund.
During her time in Indiana, Stam will be welcomed back with a hometown parade from Seymour High School to City Hall. Seymour officials also plan to erect a new sign on the east side of the city this week to honor Stam.

She’ll also take part in events in Brownstown and, on March 7, Stam is scheduled to help kickoff the National Maple Syrup Festival near the Jackson County town of Medora.

Stam is the first winner of the 88-year-old pageant from Indiana.
